Terms of service

Last updated: October 5, 2026 · Version 2026-10-05

1. Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Rist Mobile, LLC (“we”, “us”). They cover the Rist Assist service, the website at ristassist.com, and your account. You accept them when you create an account or use the service. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and is part of these terms.

Section 17 requires most disputes to go to individual arbitration, not court, and waives jury trials and class actions. Please read it.

2. Who can use Rist Assist

You must be at least 18 and live in the United States. The service isn’t available in Canada or anywhere else yet. Each subscription is for one person. You’re responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens on your account and your paired phones. Tell us right away if you think someone else is using your account.

3. The service, and what “beta” means

Rist Assist is a voice assistant that runs on our servers and works only on a Google Pixel 10a running RistOS. It doesn’t run on other Android phones or on iPhone. An account can have up to two paired phones. Anything that needs the assistant needs a data connection. Timers and alarms already set on the phone still go off without one.

Rist Assist is in beta, and so is every feature in it. You choose which features the assistant uses from the Features page of your account. That means:

  • It will sometimes be wrong. Answers come from AI models, web search, maps and other sources. The assistant can mishear you, misunderstand you, pick the wrong person, or state something false with confidence. Check anything important before you rely on it.
  • It isn’t professional advice. Nothing the assistant says is medical, legal, financial or safety advice.
  • What it can do will change. We may add, change or remove features while the beta runs.
  • It can be unavailable. We don’t promise any particular uptime.

When the assistant gives you directions, watch the road and obey traffic laws and signs. Directions can be wrong or out of date.

4. Price, billing and cancelling

Price. Rist Assist costs $10 a month per person. There is one plan, and it includes every feature. Any applicable sales tax is shown at checkout before you pay.

Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews every month, and our payment processor, Stripe, charges your card at the start of each period until you cancel. If we change the price, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.

Cancelling. Cancel at any time from your account page, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. The service keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for and then stops. You won’t be charged again.

If a payment fails. The assistant keeps working for 3 days while your card is retried, and your phone tells you once a day. After that it stops answering until the payment goes through, and anything you set up to run on a schedule is paused. It starts again on its own once you have paid. If a charge is disputed with your bank, the service is paused until the dispute is resolved.

Your Rist Assist phone number. If you have a Rist Assist phone number and your account stays unpaid or cancelled for 60 days in a row, we may release the number, and you may not be able to get it back.

Refunds. We don’t give refunds automatically, including when you cancel or delete your account partway through a period. Cancelling stops your subscription from renewing at the end of the current period. If you think you should get a refund, ask through our contact page and we will consider the request case by case. We also give refunds where the law requires it. If we end the service for reasons that aren’t your fault, we will refund the unused part of your current period.

5. Usage allowance and limits

Allowance. Each account has an allowance of assistant use over a rolling 30 days. By our estimate it covers around a thousand typical requests, and fewer if many of them search the web. Going past it never costs extra, and the assistant doesn’t cut you off. Until your use over the last 30 days drops back under the allowance, the assistant gives shorter answers, may use a smaller AI model, and skips web, news and image searches. It tells you once a day while this is happening, and says when it ends. Timers, alarms, calls, texts, notes and the calendar are not affected. We may adjust the allowance during the beta.

Other limits.

  • Each press of the button records up to one minute.
  • Calls and texts go only to ordinary US and Canadian numbers. The assistant refuses premium-rate numbers (such as +1 900), special-rate numbers, international numbers and +1 Caribbean and Pacific countries.
  • Each account can send up to 100 texts, 50 calls and 50 emails a day, and contact up to 30 people a day that it hasn’t contacted in the previous 30 days.
  • A call placed through the assistant can last up to one hour.

6. What Rist Assist does for you

By using Rist Assist, you ask it to act for you: to send texts and emails, place calls, change your calendar, and manage your contacts, notes and lists, as you instruct. Here is how it works:

  • It acts without asking. When you tell the assistant to send a message, change your calendar or delete something, it may do it right away. If something is unclear, it may ask you a question first.
  • Standing instructions run without you. An instruction you set up and approve, such as “text Sam every Friday at five”, runs on schedule without asking you each time. Cancel an instruction any time.
  • You’re the sender. Messages and calls the assistant makes at your direction are yours. You’re responsible for them and for having the right to contact the people you ask it to reach.

7. Acceptable use

Don’t use Rist Assist to:

  • break any law, including laws on calls, texts, recording, privacy and consent;
  • send marketing, promotional or bulk messages, or contact people from purchased, rented or scraped lists;
  • contact anyone who has asked not to be contacted, or get around an opt-out (for example by switching numbers);
  • harass, threaten, defraud or impersonate anyone;
  • make automated or high-volume calls or texts, or use the assistant as a messaging service for a business;
  • get around the limits in Section 5, or resell, share or sublicense access to Rist Assist;
  • probe, overload or attack the service, or copy, decompile or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows; or
  • upload content you don’t have the right to share.

We may refuse a request, block a message, or suspend an account to enforce this section, protect other people, or protect our phone and email services.

8. Text messaging program

Rist Assist sends texts and places calls for you only when you ask it to, or through a standing instruction you set up and approved, to people in your contacts or numbers you give it. It doesn’t send marketing or promotional messages, and it doesn’t message numbers from purchased, rented or third-party lists. It only reaches the people you ask it to.

Texts usually go out from your phone’s own mobile line. When the assistant sends a text from your Rist Assist phone number, these rules also apply:

  • Message frequency varies. It depends entirely on how often you ask the assistant to send. Message and data rates may apply.
  • Every message starts with “RIST:”.
  • First message. The first time the assistant texts someone, the message carries a one-time notice identifying the service and how to get help or opt out. It reads: “RIST: [message] Msg freq varies. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.” Here, [message] is the text you asked the assistant to send.
  • No reply, no second message. After that first message, the assistant sends nothing more to that person from a Rist Assist number until they reply. Someone who texted you first can be answered normally.
  • HELP. A recipient can reply HELP at any time. The answer says: “RIST sends texts for a contact of yours who asked us to. Rist Mobile, LLC. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • STOP. A recipient can reply STOP (or STOPALL, END, QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, REVOKE or OPTOUT) at any time. They get one confirmation and nothing more from Rist Assist. The opt-out is honored on every path, including texts that would otherwise go from your own phone, and it isn’t undone by the person later texting you. Only they can lift it, by replying START.
  • Questions about this program: use our contact page.

9. Emergencies

Rist Assist is not an emergency service. Don’t rely on it to reach 911 or any other emergency number. In an emergency, dial 911 yourself on your phone’s dialer.

  • The assistant doesn’t place emergency calls itself. If you ask it to call 911 or 988, it opens your phone’s dialer with that number, and you have to place the call. Emergency calls always go over your phone’s own mobile line, never through a Rist Assist number.
  • It can fail. The assistant decides what you meant using an AI model. It can mishear or misunderstand you, and it needs a data connection and a working service to do anything at all.
  • If your subscription has lapsed, the assistant still tries to open the dialer when your words ask for 911 or 988. If that check can’t be completed within a few seconds, it won’t open the dialer.
  • Don’t text 911 through the assistant. It doesn’t support text-to-911.

10. Your content

You own what you say to the assistant and what you create with it. You give us permission to store, process and send that content, and to share it with the service providers in our Privacy Policy, only as needed to run the service for you, keep it secure, and fix it. You’re responsible for having the right to give the assistant other people’s information, such as your contacts.

11. Our property

The Rist name, RistOS and Rist Assist, and the software, design and content of the service, belong to Rist Mobile, LLC or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the service while your subscription is active and you follow these terms. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.

12. Ending your account

You can cancel (Section 4) or delete your account from your account page at any time. Deleting cancels your subscription right away, with no refund for the current month, and deletes your data as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, don’t pay, put other people or our services at risk, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. We may also end the beta or the service with at least 30 days’ notice by email, and refund the unused part of your current period (Section 4).

Sections 4 (amounts owed and refunds), 10, 11 and 13 to 19 continue to apply after your account ends.

13. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, Rist Assist is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the service will be accurate, uninterrupted or error-free, that a message, call, alarm, reminder or standing instruction will be delivered or run on time, or that it will reach the right person.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • Rist Mobile, LLC isn’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from or related to Rist Assist or these terms. This includes damages from a missed, late or misdirected message, call, alarm or reminder, and from any failure to reach emergency services.
  • Our total liability for all claims related to Rist Assist or these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Rist Assist in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim, or $50.

Some places don’t allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

15. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of a message or call you directed the assistant to make, content you gave it, or your breaking these terms or the law, you will cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, to the extent the law allows.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live requires otherwise.

17. Disputes and arbitration

Talk to us first. Before starting a claim, write to us through our contact page and give us 30 days to try to resolve it.

Arbitration. Any dispute arising from or related to Rist Assist or these terms will be resolved by binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in the State of Texas. Either of us may still bring an individual claim in small-claims court. You and we each waive the right to a jury trial and to take part in a class or representative action.

Opting out of arbitration. You can opt out of this arbitration agreement by writing to us through our contact page within 30 days of first accepting these terms. Give the email address on your account and say that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out doesn’t affect the rest of these terms. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts in Texas.

18. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We will post the new version here with a new date. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or on this website before it takes effect, and we may ask you to accept the new version to keep using Rist Assist. If you don’t agree, cancel before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after the change means you accept it.

19. General

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Rist Assist. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer these terms. We may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the business. We aren’t responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including failures of carriers, providers or networks.
